    Nothing was as bad as the made-up baseball trade deadline pressers with Steve Phillips pretending to be the GM of every team.

    Busch is like five guys in a Triple-A lineup being from the majors. Why it's treated as more than an asterisk is beyond me.

    Nah. Not a thing. ::)

    Brian France needs to go away. Now. Toolbox.

    (Psst, Brian ... the tweaks are more desperate and dumb. It was a better product without you in it. And take Mike Helton with you into the Middle of Nowhere ... )

    I bet that sounded like a really good idea in the story meeting.

    Daugherty also is on the NASCAR appeals committee, formally known as the National Stock Car Racing Commission.

    And we wonder why baseball isn't half as popular as it was even 20 years ago? It's not the only reason, but ESPN slamming us over the head with the NFL and, now, NASCAR, certainly doesn't help baseball's cause.

    It's truly stunning how much NFL is discussed on ESPN. If you (dare) watch Pardon the Interuption or Around the Horn, it's a guarantee that -- no matter what time of year -- the majority of subjects will be NFL-related. During football season, it's probably about 90 percent NFL. And the sportswriters on these shows, many of whom probably grew up loving baseball, just stick their fingers to the wind, realize the NFL is No. 1 and bow to the almighty Tagliabue/Goodell, rarely criticizing the league while bashing baseball (steroids, anyone?) at every turn.

    Over-saturated NFL coverage will continue for the next two months until the Draft. And it certainly appears ESPN is going the same route with NASCAR.
