First, John L. Smith goes goofy and slaps the shit out of himself at a press conference.

Now, Mark Dantonio erupts -- at length -- at a news conference over alleged unsportsmanlike conduct by Michigan's All-American RB, Mike Hart.

NOTE: Hart finishes his career with a 4-0 record vs. Sparty and about 700 yards rushing in those four games.

    :D :D :D :D :D

Well, if the situation absolutely requires really stupid, futile gestures, Sparty is just the guys to do it.

The photo of Dantonio is remarkably Belichick-like.

Aint no party like a Sparty party cause a Sparty party always whines...

can Sparty, with its track record of implosion over the slightest thing gone wrong, right the ship and become bowl eligible?

Oh, and in case you were wondering? The three Sparties arrested for unarmed robbery? We'll just push that back to after bowl season and not mention it again...

Officials won't release arrest records of MSU football players
Fred Girard / The Detroit News

Legal proceedings against three Michigan State football players charged with 15-year felonies have been put off until next January -- just after bowl season -- and officials have refused to release their arrest records, normally considered open under Michigan court precedents.

The players -- T.J. Williams, SirDarean Adams and Jeremy Ware -- are charged with unarmed robbery, accused of stealing a man's wallet, and are free on $15,000 personal bonds. All are still members of the team.

A spokesman for Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart J. Dunning III refused a Detroit News Freedom of Information Act request for records of their arrests because, "This office believes other people participated in the crime in addition to the three individuals currently charged. We are seeking information that will implicate those parties," the denial letter said.

Court precedents in Michigan have held that arrest records become public when defendants have been arraigned. If necessary, certain portions of records may be blacked out, but all other parts must be released, under Michigan's open records laws.

Another reason for refusing to release the records, said the letter from assistant prosecutor Eric M. Matteo, is that The Detroit News has "high readership in Ingham County (and) your recitation of the facts of this case to the general public could influence potential jurors as to the innocence or guilt of the three parties charged."

I'm a little disappointed Hart would say that kind of thing. Maybe I don't read a lot of Michigan coverage, but I always admired Hart because he seemed to always handle himself with class and humility. That was a pretty classless thing to say.

Maybe the fact that they worry so much about planting flags at opponents' 50-yard-lines, opponents planting flags at their 50-yard-line, making snarky jokes about Michigan losing to App State, keeping track of what Mike Hart is or isn't saying, and Dantonio's "Look-At-Us-We-Luvv-Jeeezsus" revival prayer meetings on the field after games (only after wins), has something to do with the fact they can't concentrate on Saturdays and win a football game once in a while.

I've never lived in Michigan or had any reason to dislike Michigan State, but I don't think there's a more pathetic fanbase in the Midwest than Sparty football fans.
