Real good read on ESPN.com this morning from Wright Thompson on Mike Vick, his impact on Atlanta and its history. His work for ESPN might be some of the best sports writing on the web in the past year -- big, relevant pullouts with some punch. This, Genarlow Wilson, the McGwire piece last year ... here's the link.

His story about Augusta and his dad was very good, too, though just about anyone who gets to play Augusta probably has the same experience.

So, New Order became the first organization to publicly support the NFL star. Its target is a moving one. It isn't really animal rights groups, or even white Atlanta. Certainly, some of white Atlanta supports Vick, too, though arguably because they are Falcons fans. New Order leaders are aiming at people who formed their opinion on Vick because of his race and not facts.

An interesting piece, detonated by this one paragraph.
White Atlantans only support Vick because they're Falcons fans?
    Man, is that rich.
I quit reading right there. Lucky for WT, he buried this piece of nonsense 90 percent through the story.

Seems to me the story would have been stronger if he had interspersed examples of prosecutorial misconduct rather than those he used.
