Would you kindly please just shut the f*&# up?

  1. Some of you guys must be professional contortionists, the way you try to equate Chavez with Bush. Here's one big difference: Bush will be out of office in 2009, never to return. Apparently, Chavez will be in office for life.

But hey, don't let that get in the way of your moral relativism.

Lyman, many of those on here would just as soon have a Chavez running this country. That tells you all you need to know.

    Yep.

Bush ran out of time before he could chisel THAT part of the Constitution into smithereens.

Quite true. There are two common misconceptions that the American right wing has perpetuated about Chavez:

    1) That the Venezuelan economy has been destroyed. In truth, thanks to booming oil prices and China's increasingly voracious apetite for Venezuelan oil, money's flowing into the country like crazy right now. The only difference is who gets it. The private businessmen and right wing corporate class that used to rule Venezuela and strongly supported the U.S. aren't getting the same cut they used to, whereas the government (and corrupt government officials) and public/social services are taking a whole lot more.

    2) That he's not democratically elected. His elections were internationally monitored and, although some irregularities were noted, there was absolutely no doubt that he was the choice of most voters (bearing a stark contrast to how our own prez came to office in 2000), mainly because he has overwhelming support from Venezuela's indigenous and impoverished classes that make up the majority of the population. And when the right wing tried to overthrow him by military coup, it was overwhelming popular support that defeated the coup and put him back in power.

That said, I do not like Chavez. I think he's a buffoonish demagogue taking the country on an authoritarian path, and I doubt at this point that he'd voluntarily cede power if he lost an election. But it'd be nice if we could confine criticism of him to the the truth.

He compared Bush to the devil.

How crazy could he possibly be?

    Chavez is a raving psycho.
If something ever happens to him, his country will be much better off.

Markvid, just curious, are those triplets? Damn. Talk about an instant hit on the wallet, a hell of a time at feeding and changing time, but a hell of a lot of fun.

Yes, as usual, Yawn knows specifically of what he speaks...now where did I put my Chavez in '08 bumper sticker? ::)

Yawn, here's a tip...rather than spout of an assumed generality that makes you look like a horse's rear end, try sticking with the facts. People here are arguing the characterization of Chavez, who clearly is a punk. But not one single person has suggested he ought to be president. In fact, so far you're the only person who's done that. Maybe the FBI ought to visit you...
