Landon Donovan could now be looking at a mega payday in the English Premier League. [IMG] BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa – Landon Donovan’s pain over the United States’ World Cup exit could be eased by a lucrative transfer to the world’s richest soccer club.

Yahoo! Sports has learned that English Premier League team Manchester City has identified striker Donovan as one of its top targets in the gigantic summer spending spree by owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
Manchester City sent a scout to watch Donovan “in all four games” that the American played during the World Cup, according to a source who is familiar with the team’s player acquisition dealings. Another source close to the club confirmed to Yahoo! Sports that there is “significant interest” in Donovan. http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/world-cup/news/sources-worlds-richest-club-eyeing-donovan--fbintl_ro-donovan062710.html

Yeah, it's Manchester United that's the richest club. If it was the NBA, they would be the Lakers.

Man City would be the Clippers.

Should be interesting to see how Landon fares with the sporting public after tabloid reports of incoming paternity tests.. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gFAdiHgL04oUre79WVWyuCk4JKNAD9GJPDDG0

Man City should go after one of the world's best keepers instead! [IMG]http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/manchester_city/article7108967.ece

The owners are not the club.

Citeh isn't even in the top 10. It is not the world's richest club.

That Forbes article fails to address ManU's massive debt. I'm never sure how much of the England press' squawking about it is Chicken Little, but I don't think Portsmouth would have been wrong to say the sky is falling after it became the first Premiership club to enter administration (approximately equivalent to bankruptcy, as well as I can tell).

I'm not implying that ManU's going to go bankrupt, but they've not been spending any money on the transfer market, which everybody assumes is because of cash flow problems.

I, for one, raised a stink when Man City drafted Olowokandi.

I love me some Landon but i'm not sure he's worth $12 million in transfer fees. http://www.nesn.com/2010/06/report-landon-donovan-draws-serious-interest-from-manchester-city-at-world-cup.html
