I didn't think dogs could live *this* long. RIP

I can't remember what she was, but my dad had a dog named Molly that lived until she was 24. She was deaf and blind. When I was four, she ran out in front of him in the driveway one day when he was just getting home from work. I can't remember much about it, but I can't imagine how much that must have devastated him. I mean, my parents were never "the dogs live inside with us" type of people, but this was a dog he'd had since he was about six.

Wouldn't that be 147 human years since the dog was actually 21 in dog years? Just askin' ...

It averages out to seven, but any vet will tell you a dog goes 25 human years in the first two years and then five for every year thereafter.

Deaf and blind, not deaf, dumb and blind. ;)

(And thanks for getting that song stuck in my head.)

The same situation happened to my aunt and uncle with their really old dog, except she accidentally backed over him in the driveway. So sad.

My dog only has seven years to catch up with him! Of course, my mom was telling me three years ago that she didn't think Sassy was going to live to see me graduate from college, and that was a year and a half ago. She's just hanging on, happy as a clam for the days when she gets to go ride on the Cushman with dad at the golf course.

"Dogs are God's angels sent here to look out for us," Denice Shaughnessy said.

See, I didn't even know that.

You're right, TG.....It would be 147 in human years. Thanks for catching that.....And I corrected it on my original post, but the title change isn't taking on the replies (I don't know why).
