Saw a Ben Dover personnel announcement in a B2B trade mag the other day.

They tried "messing with it" for all women's sports except basketball.

    It did not go well.

Been waiting for an off-day to post this, but, analytics!

I know there are some who swear by them, some who swear at them, but there's a lot of folks who don't know what the eff they mean and it just flies past them. (And does anyone know if there's an Analytics 101 site or book?)

The use of acronyms in reporting on analytics. It is hard enough to figure out what the analytics mean even when an explanation is provided but to use acronym without explanation causes me to click out of the story.

Came across one today and I've cringed for decades on it.

    Motorists.

Was Rodney King the original motorist? Can’t remember really hearing it before that, and everyone needed a word to call him because they were too scared to just say police were beating the hell out of a Black guy.

I'd never associate King as a motorist. It's more for traffic stories and detours. Being from SoCal, I loathe the word.

    Speaking of roads and traffic:

At the intersection of Main Street and West Avenue.

More NFL game announcers than writers: "High pointed", "in space", "put his foot in the ground", "the defense needs to get off the field".

I got here late, so two additions to the nickname party...

Barren County High School (Glasgow, Kentucky) boys are Trojans, girls are Trojanettes. The jokes almost write themselves.

Centralia High School (Illinois) boys are Orphans, girls are Annies. Supposedly in the early days the boys played in ragged old uniforms, looking like kids from an orphanage. Girls came along later, and I suspect you can figure out how they got their name.
