    The court system is not perfect and there are flaws. However, its the best system in the world right now and I would not trade it for another (how about a system where the Govt. is the judge, jury and prosecutor?) Fixes can and will be made in the future but hopefully we do not lose sight of the right to a free and impartial jury.

    A prosecutor could abuse the system of mandatory sentencing schedules, just as a judge can abuse the system when he/she has discretion in a system without mandatory sentencing schedules.
    It's a question of which flaw you prefer.
    The public has, in large part, supported mandatory sentencing schedules.
