I can see both sides. My advice? Gamblers who are THAT worried about it are usually (hopefully) at the tables with the higher minimums. I have a harder time feeling bad for others at the $5 table. If you play at the $5 tables, you should know what you're getting into -- beginning gamblers and those who don't give a rat's ass about your losses.

You never know. One bad play could completely ruin the table and cause a string of 20s/21s for the dealer and screw everyone, including yourself.

Of course, one bad play could also completely change the run and cause the dealer to bust and get a bunch of 23s/24s.

And Buck, if you are in fact trying to win, stop splitting the damn nines!

That's like trying for a sac bunt with two outs.

    ;D ;D

This happened to me on my last night in Vegas. Playing $10 hands of blackjack switch at a dive casino that was next to my hotel. I was playing there because the Flamingo had $25 hands and I didn't feel like being a high roller. I was up a significant amount of money and some drunks came in and started staying on 13's, 14's and even 12's when the dealer was showing 8's 9s' and 10s. I wasn't smart enough to figure out what would have happened if each of the players had played "by the book", but once they started playing, I started losing.

I gave the evil eye and did not feel bad about it. I knew that I wasn't at a high stakes table, but still, I didn't feel like getting up, and I was having a good run. My lost hands may have had nothing to do with their decisions, but I'm a little superstitious, as all gamblers are. That's the way you gotta be. So I get pissed when stuff like that happens. Not so much people staying on a 16, or splitting some unconventional pairs. I'm talking about the consistent terrible play like when the guy next to me tried to stay on an 11, insisting that it was a 12, and the dealer had miscounted.

That's exactly my point. Everybody gets pissed because they automatically assume the former is what happens to them. But studies show that the latter happens nearly as often. "Bad-play" gamblers have a negligible effect at any given table. That's a fact.

It won't stop somebody like tri from giving me the evil eye. But just know you're wrong, not me.

The only people who complain about getting the evil eye are the turrrible players. :)

Blackjack is not that hard. Just play by the book and everybody is happy. ;)

There needs to be a short bus table for gamblers like me. I am just like BYH in that I am really afraid of ticking off the table, but not nearly as confident as BW to tell everyone to piss off.

I would really like to play blackjack, but since I don't feel qualified, I just stick with slot machines.

I may not win as much, but they never judge me. :)

You don't feel qualified to play blackjack? Can you not count to 21?

Not without taking off his pants. ;)

Yes, I can count to 21, mostly with my clothes on. But it's all the other stuff. When to split, when to hit, what does the dealer have, how is what I'm doing affecting the other people at the table (the last one is actually the biggest deal, I don't like it when people are annoyed with me, with the possible exception of my wife, whose disappointment I have grown used to)

Most bad-play gamblers often will ask for advice when they're uncertain on a move, and I'm more than willing to quickly try to explain which move increases their odds of winning. But if you're going to piss away your money and don't give a damn about it, one of us is going to have to find another table.

And if you try to use strategy — try to keep track in your head of what cards have been played since the last shuffle to increase your chances of winning — they'll throw you out of the casino.
