Woman in Atlantic City rolls the bones for four hours

I've been to casinos where they count the rolls (the boxman has a manual flip-number thing) with the best roll of the day winning $50 or something. I think the California in downtown Vegas, where the previous record was set, still counts every roll.

Yeah, you never know what someone's gonna make at a table like that. I stood at a table with a woman who rolled for an hour and never had more than $5 on the line with no odds. It was just criminal, but none of us were gonna tell her to bet more because that would have been a sure jinx.

I agree. I knew nothing about craps before my Vegas trip a few years ago. Picked it up very quickly and won a good amount at The Palms.

I forgot everything just as quickly as I learned it, though.

I'll definitely re-learn it before my next gambling trip, for sure. Maybe it was just that day, but it seemed like easy money. A friend and I both won big that day.

I guess we're both right -- from urban dictionary.....

    Bones
    Noun.

    1. Street term for the game of Dominoes, popularized in the 1990's.

"then we played bones, and I'm yellin' 'dominoes'..." - Ice Cube, "It Was A Good Day"

    2. Money.

"That'll cost you some serious bones."

Good enough. I've never seen one of those counters and I've lost money in some pretty low-class joints.

Yeah, I knew they were called bones. But you can't roll dominoes.

I was just pointing out that your "not dice" comment was wrong.

OK, I'm uneducated on gambling, etc. Does this mean she rolled 154 straight winning rolls, or 154 straight of a certain number, or something else?

She rolled 154 straight times without rolling "seven-out".

Very poorly written story. And my guess is, that since she is a novice craps player, she did not make the most money on the table. If there were savvy gamblers on the table when she threw, they made very, very very nice money.

Why is that craps seems to be the quickest way to go broke or get really rich in a casino? Is there that much action in it?

I've never played it. I've watched some of my friends play it and had no idea what the hell they were rooting for.

There are a few safe bets, which I played a ton. But there are also a bunch of longshot bets. That's where people either win a ton or lose a ton.

I stayed conservative for the most part and did well. Didn't clean up or anything, but I did well.

I have a mental block against learning craps. One of my friends is a relatively new player. In the 10 or so times she's played, she has won more than $400 each time.

It's mainly repetition. Before we left for Vegas, my buddy bought one of those cheap craps table things to lay over his pool table. We set a piece of plywood at the end and played for a week straight to make sure we knew what we were doing. Craps for Dummies helps, too.

    Who says she
    Who says she won?

She could have been playing $5 hands on the pass and losing money left and right on hard ways. Who knows. She could have been dumb and been placing hoping bets. People betting the dont come bar could have also lost money.

In that situation, anyone who bought the 4, or the 10, or just threw money on all the numbers 4 through 10 would have made a killing.

If you put $10 in on each number, that means you would have won at least $10 bucks on 154 straight rolls. That's a lot of money. And that's without even pressing the bets.
Experienced players who would press one unit after a winning roll probably hit the table limit on most of their numbers. Meaning they were probably winning $500 hands.
