It does seem like non-cons and NBA media types were a lot more willing to go in on Lebron’s dumbass comments than they were on Kerr’s dumbass comments.

I guess Lebron’s were more clearly dumb whereas Kerr kind of obfuscates and passed the buck

Danced with wind and danced with fire
Killed the truth and called the liar
Bleeding in its mystery when the moon began to fall
Dreamers are not all they seem,
    Sleeping in her silent dream
She locks it all inside and hides it all away

Kerr and Popovich should be raked for their milquetoast responses . Pop especially. They come off as weak company men. Popovich has been a scornful and belligerent Son of a Bitch about so many things that when the time comes to put up, he wimps out. And when its the difference between money and principles Popovich, like LeBron and Trump protect the money.
He should have had Morey's back after the first criticism. But since it wasn't the media that was criticising Morey but people who could actually fight back, he wimped out.
So for all of them, the next gun control issues that comes up, the next Gay or Lesbian issues that incites people comes up, the next asinine thing trump does or the next racially charged issue that present itself Popovich and Kerr and Silver and James should shut up and dribble.

Well, there's money involved in standing up to China.

What's funny? Steve Kerr gets to be an amateur Man of Thought and Gregg Popovich gets to put his nose to goblets of wine because they're Americans. Not only would they lack the freedom to stand up to their government in China, you wouldn't even know who they are. There's no multi-millionaire market for what they do in China.

You don't think they could make millions plying their trade in the CBA? Hell, washouts like Stephon Marbury have. Pop and Kerr are the very best at what they do.

If they grow up some other place - including China - they’re pretty anonymous. No nation reveres coaches quite like America.

American wealth has made them smug, too. Great wealth has a habit of imbuing people with previously unknown moral insight.

This feels like a big show, doesn’t it? China’s a little worked up over a tweet, I think.

Saving face is one of China's biggest priorities when it comes to foreign relations. This reaction is not at all surprising.

that's why athletes and trump think they are smart. For them IQ is measure by investment portfolios and cash on hand. The republicans and conservatives are not the first to devalue education, athletics are. Games aren't scheduled around classes, classes are scheduled around games. For the most part, the military academies have priorities. Who makes more is the test for who is more valuable. Who makes more the Dean of the Duke Medical School or Duke basketball head coach? If value is derived from money, mayne the coach is more valuable, not the cancer researcher or the pediatric cardiologist.

Harold Bloom just died. He is one of the smartest most intelligent people I've ever heard or read. Yet LeBron James has the respect of tens of millions for his intellectual ability than does Bloom, because Bloom only published dozens of books and lectured at Yale and Columba for 40 years and LeBron is a sneaker mogul
