Agreed. The Joaquin interview was Dave at his best.

Joaquin was great too, though a couple times he appeared to break character and smile for a split second.

The difference between the two is pretty simple: Dave was in on the joke with Joaquin, not with Glover.

    Did he fall?

Dave was in on the joke? Isn't Letterman famous for pretty much never interacting with his guests before they come out for the live taping?

I'm watching it now, god it's funny.

When he said it looks like you;re taking some time off now, I lost it. His delivery is still the best.

I doubt he was in on it in the sense that Phoenix told him before hand. But Dave's been through the wars long enough (hell Andy Kaufman was his regular guest) that I'm guessin he figured out what was going on pretty much immediately.

Gotcha. But Dave looked genuinely pissed when Phoenix stuck that piece of gum on his desk.

It was no Crispin Glover, not even close.

But "Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here with us tonight" ... that was outstanding.

So, is Phoenix planning to do to rap what Andy Kaufman did to prefessional wrestling?
