oh, darn tootin' it'll be coming down, if for no other reason thit's o let own protection. you can bet it's going to be vandalized comstantly, maybe knocked down. let 'em find another plsce on campus for it AWAY from the stadium so it's no longer such a constant reminder of the atrocities commited under joe pa's watch. the guy let a pedophile destroy his once pristeen legacy. and is now making every feel sheepish and apologetic instead of proud of their alma mater. at least every alum with a conscience.

That is a bit extreme. I do not think that mob violence is the way to resolve the issues here.

I think the statue should be removed by the university administration and I hope that the university administration will take that step before the start of the Fall semester.

I wanted the poll to be like a Chicago election.

What i cant stand is all these pathetic penn state people who keep saying "this is not all that penn state stands for."Also then do something about it. Several hundred of you were angry enough to flip cars when that monster was fired. Your leaders have failed you. Take back your respect. Tear down the statue yourself. Are there not even 10a students who are as angry about the reputation damage this monster has done to your school to do something about it? Get a hammer. Make a statement. Dont wait for your leaders to fail you again.

If it stays up, it will tell everything you need to know about how serious Penn State is about making sure its priorities are in order when it comes to the place of football in higher education.

And that fucked-up mindset and misplaced priorities is what got them in this place to begin with.

10 students? I'd like to hear ONE Penn State student or former player express their disgust that the paragon of virtue after which they modeled themselves was a self-serving hypocrite whose greatest lesson was that nothing is more important than protecting yourself and your legacy, even if it means willfully aiding in the destruction of innocent lives.

The fact that so many are willing not to distance themselves from Paterno's now-horrifying legacy, but instead continue to embrace it is mind-boggling and anger-inducing.

What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Indeed. And this is why it's hard to wrap your head around the assertion we've heard repeatedly that it's not fair at all to the community if football gets taken away from them, because they did nothing wrong.

This is an excerpt from the NYT story today that reveals Paterno was negotiating a $3 million buyout soon after he had to face a grand jury. The Board of Trustees, even after it was clear Paterno had not exactly done the right thing, was too afraid to try and stop that payment.

Over the ensuing months, as revelations about the role Mr. Paterno and other university officials played in the scandal mounted, a schism developed among the board members, according to several people with knowledge of the events.

There were some who argued that it was unseemly to pay the remainder of the money and other perks owed to Mr. Paterno, according to several people with knowledge of the discussions. They wondered whether, given Mr. Paterno’s failings, it might be possible to nullify the contract, or at least renegotiate it and reduce the payout, the people said.

Others worried about the hostility they would face if they tried to strip Mr. Paterno, still beloved in many quarters of the campus, of money that he was contractually owed - a prospect that grew even more worrisome after he died on Jan. 22 this year. During a conference call, one board member worried aloud that failure to make good on what was owed to the Paterno estate could lead to another "reign of terror" by Mr. Paterno's supporters, according to a person who was on the call.

Again, the Board of Trustees feared a reign of terror by Paterno supporters.

I'd say that makes a pretty compelling case this goes beyond "administrative football problem."

The local and national media did a pretty good job of deifying Paterno, too. For decades. So let's not pretend otherwise. Ask Tim Tebow about media hype.

As for the statue, it's got to come down.
