Will COVID-19 be the needle that finally bursts the sports bubble?

After three weeks of hit-or-miss football games here in North Idaho (most were played, a couple bagged due to COVID/low numbers of available kids), smoky air has canceled the past week of outdoor sports.
They were hoping air quality index numbers would dip below 150 today (the threshold for playing), but instead it's gone the opposite direction; we're back over 200 AQI at the moment.

A couple games are moving into the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome (not like the Vandals are using it), and a couple rescheduled for tomorrow, when a cold front (and maybe rain) finally arrive.

According to the story, the game was canceled because a Portage Central coach tested positive -- not a player.

    Good for them for canceling.

One thing to pay attention to with a lot of these cancellations is how many players are testing positive, if any. We've had a few down here where it's been one player, and the entire team has to quarantine and thus is not allowed to play. Or it's one or two students in the school, not even athletes, and they are required to shut down athletics for a week or two. And they might just be positive tests, and not even full-blown cases.
Canceling a game makes it seem like these schools are crawling with COVID and that's not always -- hell, it rarely seems to be -- the case.

That's all true, but there's no alternative except accepting a mass outbreak. If all the people who attended the Biogen conference in Boston in February had been isolated and quarantined, Massachusetts alone would have been spared thousands of deaths.

When does the next NHL and NBA season start?

January, I think. They’re going to get trapped in a cycle if they decide they must play 82 games.

Why? Start the NBA on Christmas, the NHL on New Year's Day. Go into summer.

I can see both happening. But they already play into summer. There are already two precedents for the NBA playing 50-game seasons (both strike years).
