In Mississippi there is some chatter about switching the fall and spring sports seasons. In other words, playing "non-contact" sports like baseball and softball in the fall, and waiting until spring to play football when things might be better and fans can come.
The thinking behind it is that football pays for the other sports in most places, so not having fans at games this fall is going to create a giant hole in the budget. Of course, there is also the logic that you can spread out a lot more in baseball and softball than you can in football so it might be safer from a public health perspective.
The baseball/softball folks are split, though. After they already lost the spring 2020 season, some of them are worried that another spike that shuts things down in the fall could cost them two seasons instead of just one. Conceivably, it could also mean they wouldn't play again until spring 2022 either way.
Football season is supposed to start Aug. 21, with preseason jamborees and scrimmages on Aug. 14. Offseason workouts began in June and are going to flow right into the season. For now, the MHSAA is still developing contingency plans and doing the wait-and-see thing. They're going to meet again on July 14 to see where everything stands.

From the opinion of an actual expert in football.
Funny. I thought the libruhl media was to blame for all the talk about the improbability of football.

Maybe you should have thought a little longer before throwing open the doors in Myrtle Beach, huh?

Wow. Actual courage by a Trumpist?
SC paid attention to Saint Dabo of the Upstate and behaved as if the Trumpandemic had already been defeated. He hath decreed, after all, “This Is Gonna End Real Soon.”
The governor has delivered a reality check. He is asking his klan to decide what’s more important to them: Trump or football.

What are the laws in South Carolina? Are masks required? Don’t lecture, Governor. Act!

Columbia's mayor mandated masks at all times last week, so at least he's trying

Boise State had just restarted baseball this year after a 40-year hiatus. Got in 14 games.
