    Via ACES:

The Wichita Eagle (85,000 daily, 150,000 Sunday) is looking for a
sports copy editor. The Eagle sports staff is a regular APSE award
winner in both writing and section contests and a top-notch sports
desk is a big reason. We're looking for someone with strong word
skills who can strengthen reporters' copy and also help the group of
part-timers we use for high school and small-college sports.
Pagination experience preferred, bachelor's degree required. Send
resume, references and three examples of editing work to Kirk
Seminoff, Sports Editor, Wichita Eagle, PO Box 820, Wichita, Kan.
    67201-0820. Or e-mail kseminoff@wichitaeagle.com.

I've said it before, I'm not a fan of Wichita.
I am, however, a fan of this paper and specifically Kirk. Heard nothing but good things about him.

This was posted in late November/early December. Was this not filled? I would think it would be easy to find a qualified candidate to work there.

Are we sure it isn't another opening?

Any idea the pay range for this one?

I thought I remembered hearing it wouldn't get filled until after the New Year, so maybe they are just re-posting it.

I guess if you want to be a writer this probably isn't the job for you is it?

If you wanna write, apply for writing jobs, not desk jobs. I don't want to work with somebody on desk who doesn't enjoy and want to be there.

Wichita is an abysmal town, but the paper is pretty solid. Perhaps that kind of thing goes hand-in-hand.

I'll always remember a trip there for a buddy's hockey tourney when I was in high school. We knew drinking was probably out of the question, so we asked around on what to do.
The first three people told us to hit up the Strip.
Us, being uncultured to the ways of Wichita and unwise to the generic term, figured it was a strip mall or something of the sort. Not so much.
It was a two-mile stretch of road where kids drove their cars around a McDonalds, reentered a length of cars, only to turn around two miles later at a KFC and repeat the process.
