Why do I care?

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!!, Oct 8, 2006.

  1. Jeff Gordon got caught up in the big one.
I threw the remote, kicked a teddy bear, changed the channel and then went outside to do yard work.
The Steelers. My Steelers. The defending Super Bowl champs will probably lose tonight (that's the way my day has gone).
    Why do I care?
Do get to skip work tommorrow if the Steelers win?
If Gordon wins the Chase do I get an extra day of vacation?
Did I get a bonus check when the Steelers won the Super Bowl? Or when Mickelson won the Masters?
I can remember crying in 1981 when the Steelers were eliminated from playoff contention, by the Bengals, on my birthday.
    So why?
WHY do I care? It has absolutely no (direct) effect on my life. But a loss ruins my day.
    Why is that?

I asked myself the same thing today when Kansas City was losing to Arizona (Chiefs won 23-20.)

Kansas Jayhawk football has been stuck in mediocrity since 1968. The Chiefs haven't done shit since 1993, the Royals since 1985. Kansas basketball rips my heart out of my asshole every year since 1988. I could go on, but I won't. I just feel your pain. I don't know why I care, and my wife will say the same. I scare the shit out my kids when the Chiefs play, and they were terrified of me during the USA/Italy World Cup game. It's really not worth it. But yet ... I can't walk away.
