The death of any sitting American president is a Big Damn Deal.

Other than WAR! or JESUS RETURNS! that's No. 1 and everything else is No. 11 or better.

I saw McCartney mentioned...what about Mick Jagger?

    Or Keith Richards.

And I would say Ali's death wouldn't be that much of a shock. He hasn't known where he is for 10 years because of Parkinson's.

You post about Keith Richards and then say someone else's death wouldn't come as a surprise? I've got dead relatives that would surprise me less to see alive than Keef.

    Oprah Winfrey.

The world would seriously end for 24 hours.

Oprah's never going to die. If she does, it's just because she's going up to heaven to buy it.

I would think circumstances have to do with it, too. Like if any prominent person was murdered, or died in a plane crash or something completely horrific, it'd be ultra significant.

That said, Jay-Z, Bruce, Rush Limbaugh (yes) would be pretty significant.

Limbaugh would be huge. Most of the talk industry is just following his his draft. There wouldn't be a replacement for him - he saved AM radio. Russert was crucial to his network, Rush is crucial to his medium.
Oprah is an industry unto herself -- but I think it's her personality rather than the show or the magazine that keep people watching and reading.
And Warren Buffett - figure the Dow drops at least 100 just out of respect.

When Fidel Castro kicks the bucket, South Florida will be totally up for grabs.
