Who was your favorite athlete as a kid?

    Baseball: George Brett
    Football: Didn't really have one. Parents wouldn't let me watch NFL
    Basketball: Dr. J
    Hockey: Didn't have one
    Soccer: Giorgio Chingalia (sp?)
    Boxing: Didn't have one
    Tennis: Jimmy Connors
    Golf: Hated golf
    Pro Wrestler: Jumpin' Jim Brunzell :D

    I'm a little surprised/pleased to see all the love for George Brett. Growing up (granted, I grew up in the Bay Area) it seemed like everybody's favorite players were Rickey Henderson, Reggie Jackson and Mike Schmidt.

    Yeah, my father was/is a big fan. Kept talking about him hitting a home run on the first pitch he saw in the bigs. I couldn't help but pay attention to the guy.

    Wright made Homer out to be a bit of an idiot. Press asked Homer if the transit strike was going to affect him - his answer "Nah man I take the subway"

    Damn right.

    He was funny in White Men Can't Jump. Unfortunately, its sort of overshadowed the fact that he was one of the best players in the NBA from 1977-83.

  12. Turned 29 on Saturday and living in Delaware, most of my influences played for Philly teams.

    Basketball: Doc, Moses Malone, Andrew Toney, Maurice Cheeks and Charles Barkley
    Baseball: Ricky Jordan and Von Hayes (hey, Schmidt had just retired when I started watching the Phillies)
    Football: Reggie White and Andre Waters (RIPx2)
