Who The Heck is Shorty?

And why are they singing about her?

Every now and then I listen to XM top 20 to get a feel the state of pop music. In the rotation for past month it seems like every other song some one is singing about "Shorty" For example in Low by Flo Rita .

Can one of you hipsters explain who shorty is?

 

Usually someone's girl, lady or woman friend. Or a hot chick they'd like to make one of the previous. For example:

"Hi mom, I'd like to introduce you to my shorty Janine."

OR

"Damn, shorty! You lookin' fine! Can I get your digits?"

 

Oh, Shorty.

Never mind.

 

Um, is the answer Sportschick?

Where it gets confusing is that kids can be shorties, too.

Its very confusing - if you listen to top 20 music someone is singing about shorty every other song.
