Who knew this Dwyane Wade guy existed?

Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Florida, just made what I think is a dumb comment while speaking to the speaker of the U.S. House.

They're offering some kind of cockamamey resolution about it being Miami Heat Day or something, and Meek says something, to the effect, about Dwyane Wade "not being known around the country" before these NBA Finals.

    Wasn't known?!

On a separate but related note, when was the last time a state could boast being the best in basketball?

University of Florida wins NCAA title.
    Miami Heat win NBA title.

Apparently not zinged enough to fix the thread, though.

i live in miami and you wouldn't believe how often this season people talked about how wade was 'a well-kept secret.'

um, no. they have internet and cable TV now. if this was 1985 and only a handful of games were nationally televised until the playoffs, he'd be a secret.

Uhm, the Detroit Pistons won the NBA championship, and Michigan the NCAA title, in 1989.

The Lakers won the NBA title, and UCLA the NCAA, in 1972.

3 times in 34 years. Kind of rare.

    Well, yeah, kind of.

In a "Hmmm, that's interesting" kind of way, as opposed to a "Oh My Sweet Jumping Jesus On A Plutonium-Powered-Pogostick, What In The Flying Flaming Freaking Holy Hell Is The World Coming To??" kind of way.

    ;) :D

If you didn't follow the NBA or college basketball you probably would not know Dwyane Wade.

He's not like Shaq or Michael Jordan, who are inescapable.
