Whitlock writes about LeBron's Vogue cover

I felt like this would get lost in the other Whitlock thread (which is headed for LockTown), so I wanted to post this separately.

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7955740/Am-I-supposed-to-be-mad-about-LeBron?

Thoughts? The cover has been discussed on other boards, and I happen to agree with him.

But, would this column be as effective if he simply stuck to the basic, "I think LeBron's Vogue cover signifies X, not Y"?

I posted about this last week - not the Whitlock angle.
There was an article that questioned if it was racist or not.
I think Jemele Hill weighed on the racist side of the argument.

Whitlock has a giant fucking woodie over all this attention.

Hey Jason: You still suck. You're still a worthless attention whore. Everyone here sees it except Mizzou, who wants to suck you off and get a job as your go-fer...

    Racist?

Is Tiger racist for marrying Elin?

Meant to mention that. ... No idea. Shit, maybe?

Which is my question: Would Whitlock be as effective at "stirring up shit" if he simply stuck to his arguments/points and dropped the schtick?

I didn't know I was supposed to have a feeling about the LeBron cover.

It's overblown nonsense by columnists and commentators who need something to fill 18 newspaper inches, who-knows-how-much web space and the airwaves.

    Whitlock is merely responding here.

This rumbling has been out there.

Thank goodness. I thought Whitlock was on the Vogue cover.

They're gonna need a bigger magazine.

I wonder what Whitlock's safe word is. [/crossthreading]

At list Whitlock talks about it. Right or wrong, he talks about it, and I think that is a step in the right direction.

Bill Cosby said the same things about certain black comedians, and Whitlock is restating these thoughts at Tyler Perry. I agree with both Cosby and Whitlock on those accounts.

I also feel he is correct in saying that people cannot have it both ways. You cannot have a tat of the Rebel Flag or a .44 on your arm and think you will be treated the same as an elder in your church.
