Which team has the most screwed-up QB situation?

They'll be using him the right way when Fox or CBS or ESPN or whoever's doing the game can't pan to him sitting on the sidelines at any given time during a game and ask, 'Why's Adrian Peterson not in there right now?'

Let's use a little common sense. Adrian Peterson is a rookie and he's had serious injuries in his past. A guy who rushed for over 1,200 yards last season and is averaging 4.4 yards per carry is not chopped liver unless you compare him to Barry Sanders.

Rookies still have a lot to learn about playing in the NFL and if they're the primary runner or receiver, they will hit a wall around the 13th or 14th week if they've been the guy since Day 1 of training camp.

Limiting Peterson's touches now will give him a better chance of being once-in-a-generation later on when there's no Chester Taylor to share carries with.

Perhaps later in the season, Peterson will be the starter and will play two series to every one Taylor plays. IF he's healthy. If he's injured again, then this whole conversation is moot.

Thing is, are we comparing current situations or long term?

Carolina deserves a vote for current. Jake Delhomme's out for the year, and Vinny Testaverde's play two weeks ago gave John Fox a window to start him again and let a compression fracture in David Carr's back further heal. The Panthers' third stringer, Brett Basanez, suffered a wrist injury and was put on IR during preseason.

Oh yeah ... and the Colts will be in Charlotte in about 48 hours.

But Jake's long-term prognosis looks good, Carr could play if he had to and should be fine soon and Basanez could still figure in the long-term plans so it's not as if the future is bleak.

Long term? Any of Miami, Minnesota or Atlanta will do. The Falcons could be fine if they put some guys up front who can protect Byron Leftwich when he gets back. The Vikings might as well see if Fran Tarkenton, Tommy Kramer or Steve Dils will try out. The Dolphins? Let's just say John Beck had better be the answer, or drafting Ted Ginn will backfire worse than a Pinto in dire need of an oil change.

    No pressure on Beck.
Dolphin fans expect him to be the second coming.

Perhaps Warren Moon would be available again.

I suggested that a page ago, Doc.

Maybe I'll just tell myself this football season never happened and all will be right with the world.
