    I read an article about this once and the writer mentioned Tinker, Evers and Chance. Chance, a .290 hitter belonged, the other two got in more for their mention in the famous poem through the Veterans Committee.

    Now that you have dared to argue that Ryne Sandberg shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, I'm thinking his honest answer would be no. :)

    I didn't argue it. Argue requires an alternative point of view; there is none. He doesn't belong.

    The first few bunches of Veteran's Committee inductees were infamous for being packed with teammates and old drinking buddies of several of the key members (notably, Frankie Frisch).

    Basically, if you were a full-time player for the New York Giants or St. Louis Cardinals for more than about two seasons from about 1920-1940, you were better than 50-50 to make the Hall of Fame.
