The 1964 Phillies' collapse is legendary. Unfortunately, that meltdown basically cemented Gene Mauch's legacy. Anytime Mauch is mentioned, it seems the 1964 season isn't far behind.

    You are both correct.

Yes, BYH, 24 fucked-up hours out of the Jack Bauer playbook -- watching the Angels lose and a double-murderer walk.

Not to mention the '86 ALCS...
not to mention a losing career record...
not to mention being possibly the most overrated manager in history.

Don't forget becoming the first manager to blow a 2-0 lead in ALCS history.

Mets and Red Sox both will stagger to the finish...
then end up in the "They-almost-choked World Series"

Provided they get there, they will have Ramirez back.

A lot of the struggles can be traced directly to when Manny left the lineup and Drew continued to blow.

And Gagne sucked, and Okijima tuned to toast and Papelbon began to burn out.

I am not too worried. A kid like Buchholz would be a perfect eighth-inning guy for the postseason, IMO. He's unflappable, has three pitches and can get out of jams. In his first start against the Angels, dipshit Drew made a big error in the first inning, and he managed to stop the bleeding.
