Where did you get this number?

I get this a lot. I understand where people are coming from, especially if it's their cell phone or their number is unlisted. But...
People have asked me where I got their number after I looked their number up from the phone book. Has happened a few times.

 

I often tell them, so and so gave me your number, I'm doing a story on...seems to work.

No way would I give out that information. It's just a little thing, but it still counts as shielding a source.

 

Yeah, pro athletes would love that answer... ;D

 

I usually say, "I've had it for a while now."

 

"You did..."

 

I actually had one guy yell at me for having it and the reason I had it was because he called me to scream at me and since I'm not a complete moron ;D I saved it from the Caller ID...
