    Let me tell you, there are plenty of candidates who could fill the 'toothless hooker' application in the mid- to upper portion of the I-81 corridor as well, sad to say. :)

    I know, I know, the Confederate heritage is as strong in Virginia as it is anywhere...perhaps stronger than anywhere else.

    But Virginia has a northern sub-region that's more Mid-Atlantic than Southern as far as the ambience goes. And the geography feels more Mid-Atlantic as well...crossing into Virginia from NC along I-95, one sees pine trees give way to deciduous trees...just feels different.

    In any case, whether justified or not, people from the Deep South consider themsleves more Southern than their fellow Southerners in Virginia...and they laugh at DC and Maryland being lumped in with "the South."
