It's never been released this late.

    In my 40 years.

No big deal, but a fact nonetheless.

    Seems about right to me.

I usually start plotting my annual Steelers trip on May 1.

Actually, to correct myself ... and defintely correct you ... it has been released this late before.

Last year's came out one year ago today: http://www.wrn.com/gestalt/go.cfm?objectid=E1A60862-0E12-DDB4-FFE5AB3B7FCCB6C2

    Other release dates...
    2006: April 6
    2005: April 13

The weird thing is, it ought to be the easiest schedule, since all the opponents are predetermined by the previous season's finish.
Nobody ever details it in print, but there's always some armwrestling over whether, say, Dallas's visit to Philadelphia is the Monday Night game, or Philadelphia at Dallas is the Monday Night game. Still, why this takes weeks and weeks to resolve is beyond me.

Vikings at Packers in the first of two Monday Night Football openers. That's the only game that matters to me at the moment.

Actually, only two games are determined that way. Since the realignment in 2002, the NFL has used rotating schedules so that everybody plays every other team in the league within a four-year span:

True, but we'll probably be well into next week before the release.

No inside knowledge here, but the NFL Network has a live two-hour Total Access on the schedule for April 17.
