1,100 jobs gone, with another 300 teetering.

That sucks. When I was in college, we'd drive through Evansville on the way to Florida for spring break. Seems like every year we'd hit it just as the Whirlpool plant changed shifts. It used to take forever to get through there.

The Findlay newspaper thread breathes a sigh of relief.

Dang, that stinks. But it sounds like that plant was at borrowed time for a while, unfortunately. The link shows that at its peak, Whirlpool employed nearly 10,000 people in Evansville.

Ugh. Reminds me of when RCA left Bloomington, once the "color TV capital of the world."

Well, at least when plants left Bloomington, they left something to remember them by (mostly, toxic waste).

    Terrible.

Any vendors or supporting businesses expected to go under because of this?

You know my dad's engineering firm does a lot of business at GE. I should call and see what's up.

1,100 people lose jobs in a town that size, the ripples become a tsunami.

Off topic: When I called up the story the photo galleries on the right side of the page had "car in river" and "Ted Kennedy" next to each other. This amused me.
