Please, no! We already have the Super Bowl XLVIII and Peyton "legacy" threads.

Seconded. Anyone who has a problem taking "you know, um" out of that quote needs to take the stick out of their ass and would never be able to write a coherent sports story. At least at the high school level. And doing that doesn't lead down a slippery slope of making up quotes or plagiarizing stories. Changing a quote and cleaning it up are two different things. Words like gotta, gonna, etc.. are up for interpretation IMO. If you want to make it got to or going to, fine with me. If the story lends itself to the more casual approach, that's fine with me to. It's all on a case by case basis. There are dozens of things that I change pretty regularly because words can sound different depending on how they are transcribed or heard or how fast the speaker is talking. I turn into standard grammar if I can. But then there are coaches and characters like The King who have a specific way of speaking, and that's fine too ...

But seriously, if some 16-year old kid says gonna and I make it going to, then I am going to be suspended by MC? Damn. That's harsh. But he probably would never hire me anyway. And I'm OK with that.

Don't take this the wrong way, but the difficulty involved in writing a coherent high school gamer is not high on the list of factors I used to determine my personal ethics.

I'm glad you're OK with that. Rest assured, while I had the power once, I will never have it again. And, I'm OK with that. Just don't ask me to condone it. Because I won't.

The funny thing about ethics is that they aren't just rules you make up and memorize. They have to have some basis in ... something ... that makes better the field they apply to.

I've explained what the basis is for me to think the way I do, and how I feel it is beneficial to the business.

You just don't agree with it.

When we get around to appointing a final arbiter on these issues, we'll see which one of us is "right" and which one of us has to "take the stick out of their ass."
