how the hell is SC's situation not symbolic of the rampant fail of the nation's health care system?

I'm not saying the insurance system is in good shape. But how is SC's problem not a symptom of the "rampant failure" of her insurance COMPANY?

Don't be hateful, SC. I'm asking a sincere question, here.

Can a guy not ask a simple question?

I am questioning why it's a failure of the system and not your company.

Basically, because it's forcing someone to spend thousands of dollars she doesn't have to get needed health care. Not a boob job or Viagra pills, but necessary medical care. And if the system weren't set up like it is (mainly, to benefit insurance and drug companies instead of patients) Cigna wouldn't have an excuse to cheap out and not pay someone in a medium-sized city to take care of their customers' teeth.

Under what type of regulation is Cigna operating that they can't get a surgeon in-network?

It's not a regulation (but you knew that). It's that the entire system is based on insurance companies making as much money as possible, and if patients happen to be treated in the meantime, that's a bonus. Cigna refuses to pay the going rate for a tooth extraction, so SC will make up the difference. Never mind that it's as necessary to her health as having a benign tumor removed, which of course they'd do right away. They figure they can get away with not paying for an oral surgeon, so SC gets screwed. It's not just Cigna; they're all like that. All because the purpose of insurance companies (the system, if you will) is to make money, NOT to care for patients.
