When did they decide to re-do the penny?

Bought lunch today. Got .03 in change. Two are brand new 2010 pennies.

I must have missed the coin re-do. What is the shield on the back, and why did the Lincoln Memorial go away? Is this a temporary thing?

Overall, it seems to me, we're introducing a heck of a lot of new images and updated currency.

I'm still trying to fill out my state quarter collection. Haven't seen more than two presidential dollar coins, either.

    I can't keep up.

Please get rid of f'n pennies. I hate the things, they make your hands stink and it costs more to make them than what they are worth.

They did a historical four-penny set last year. This year introduced the shield as the replacement for the Memorial.

I like the new design. I wish they'd keep it.

I just lost 25,000 pennies at the casino. I HATE THOSE FUCKING THINGS.

There's some sort of continuation of the state quarters series, too. Since they finished with the territories last year they've moved on to national parks. I got a Yellowstone quarter in my change a few weeks ago.
Still haven't seen many of the dollar coins. I think people hoard those for whatever reason, which is a big part of why they've never caught on no matter how hard the government tries. They're the metric system of the coin world.

Hey, KJIM, send me all your loose change, I'll figure out what it's worth, and let you know! :)

My daughter just got a $2 bill from our credit union for her birthday. I asked if she wanted to deposit it. She said no, and wants to keep it because she had never seen one before.

I thought you were talking about this penny:

    http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=NBA&id=265&line=137946&spln=1

Penny Hardaway said on Charles Oakley's internet radio show Thursday that he wants to return to the NBA and play for the, wait for it...Heat. Apparently, Penny has been tearing up rec leagues in Miami and is serious about playing again, despite being 39 years old on Sunday.

I guess because I'm easily excited, I like it when I receive foreign currency mixed in with any change I get. I felt like an enormous tool a couple of weeks back when I noticed the backs of the new pennies in some change I received at a drive-thru and thought "Sweet, I wonder where these are from?" I counted out three of them before I realized my mistake.
