They're usually behind a decade or six down there.

Well hell, Gutenberg. Other than that Bible and moveable type thingy, what have you ever done?

    Wouldn't last a week? Pshaw.

Paul is what he is, but he's carved out quite a nice business and has been around for a long time.

The thing leads with an assertion that Meyer's on his way out of Gainesville, but it doesn't attribute this nugget to anybody. (Not even to anonymous sources.)
I don't know this guy, but I do know he has built a "brand" with the column and a radio gig. Curious on popular sentiment here: What's the biggest market/paper that would permit this sort of baseless speculation in any form? Is Birmingham it? Or is there another?

The phrase "drink the Kool-Aid" should be banned for the next 99 years.

And replaced with "this columnist has ingested phenobarbital mixed with vodka, and secured a plastic bag around his head to induce asphyxiation."

Finebaum is for Finebaum, and nothing more. When Mike Shula was at Alabama, he rode him like Seattle Slew, because it was cheap and easy ratings. When the balance of power shifted back to Bama, suddenly he was all over Auburn's shit. People listen to his show for the same reason they rubberneck at freeway accidents. And as for his writing, he long ago ceased to truly give a damn about that, and now literally mails it in from 250 miles away.

Finebaum is to Bama fans as Limbaugh is to the Republican right.

Considering that over 900 people died drinking the kool aid (including a horrific number of children), it's actually pretty amazing that it's become such a commonly used phrase in our society.

As for Finebaum, he is perfect for Alabama.
