What's up with the Rangers?!?!?!?!?

Look at that hilarious porn stache.

The Rangers were 69-92 that year...in other words, not nearly bad enough to put NED FUCKIN YOST on the cover of a game program. Even if they produced a different program every day, there'd still be no reason to put Neddie on a cover. He had six homers and 25 RBI, but a .182 average and a K/BB ratio of 47/6 in just 242 at-bats.

With all that said, the Rangers '80s-era Texas-shaped logos are my Holy Grail. I MUST have one of them on a hat. I must. Nothing says earnest '80s suckiness like these logos:

The first one is the one I really want. Yet I've never seen either on a hat, even at the Cooperstown stores that specialize in old school hats and unis.

I find that hat and it'll be on my head for the next 50 days.

My vote goes for Eddie Stanky quitting as manager after ONE DAY.

    Why?

    He was homesick.

Wow, I actually had that guide. Bubbler, you just came through with the shitty-baseball equivalent of Proust's madeline.

Yost was being force-fed to Ranger fans that year because everyone was PISSED about Sundberg being traded for Yost. Doug Rader had a hate-on for Sundberg and a man-crush on Yost. Yeah, that ended well.

BYH, that ugly "TR" logo was only used during the 1983 season, so it's pretty rare. The script "Rangers" one was in use from 1984 until 1993, the last year at Arlington Stadium. You can find a shirt with the latter at distantreplays.com

A 1983 Buddy Bell jersey can be found through MLB.com

Don't know about either logo on a cap, though. The Legends of the Game Museum gift shop at the Ballpark- not the main gift shop but the one close to the southwest corner of the stadium- has a bunch of old-school logo merch that isn't listed online, so if you're curious, give them a call. Last time I was there, they had a cool 1970s Sundberg replica-jersey-style t-shirt. Didn't see a Yost one, however.

The Rangers never wore that logo on a cap, did they? They still had their "T" caps.

I last lived in Dallas in '82, before moving back to Milwaukee in a nick of time to live the Brewers' pennant race. Where have you gone, Dave Hostetler?

I can remember Wayne Tolleson doing a commercial when I was in D.

    He was no Ned Yost.

Guess I should've entered the 13-run pool because we have a guaranteed winner tonight.

Game is tied at 12-12 in the ninth after C.J. Wilson blew the save.

First baseball card I ever remember owning:

Don't think I'll ever forget that pose. For whatever reason, it's ingrained in my memory.

Jim Sundberg. A fine catcher he was, and totally underrated.

it all ties together, doesn't it? :D

How did you end up with a 1982 Sundberg Donruss card?

My first baseball card memory is of a catcher too. I think I had 750 Joe Ferguson 1980 Topps cards. He was in every damn pack.

Have no clue why it was Sundberg. My dad probably had a bunch of wax packs lying around, looking for another Ripken RC, and gave me one to open. I liked the picture on the Sundberg card, so he let me put it in "my" album.

I also have a vague memory of a beat-up 1986 Topps Ron Robinson, for some reason. My dog bit through the part that said "REDS," but I kept it anyway.

There's some really random shit in my head, if you didn't pick up on that earlier. :D
