    Someone, somewhere, thought it would be cute to take a verb and make it a noun. Like the word win, as it "he now has 10 wins."

    Not proper. But people write it and editors let it get in.

    It was funny at first when MM introduced it, but like every other word, phrase or joke around here it's been run into the ground repeatedly by unimaginative posters.

    At our place, I think it started when we decided that half the coaches in the area failed at life. It seems to happen more often when we get to spring sports.
