What's the BEST state in the union?

That would probably get my vote.

Two different types of beaches/oceans with the colder Atlantic on one side and the warmer, whiter sand Gulf on the other.

Major cities in Miami, Tampa and Orlando and it's fairly easy to traverse the state between them.

    Key West.

Yes, you have to be aware of alligators and hurricanes, but as long as you don't do something stupid, they're manageable.

The heat and humidity from May-September is pretty brutal.

  3. It'll be a cold day in hell before I recognize Missouri.

True. But within those months much of the Midwest and the Plains are bad too.

To answer another post...yeah, this thread is largely a referendum on weather.

Can be hot, no doubt, but I don't find it that much appreciably different than the humid summers of the midwest and northeast. I've found the humidity and stickiness of a hot summer to be worse in Chicago or St Louis than down south.

And I've always preferred the heat to the cold by a wide margin.

On a trip to Florida, when my mother-in-law still had a place in Bradenton, at a restaurant I was chatting with a guy who had moved from Indianapolis to St. Petersburg. I asked him, what do you think of living here? He bitterly ripped off a list of 1,000 things he hated about Florida.

I asked, "So you want to move back?" He said: "No way! And give up this weather?"

I despise Florida. Every conversation begins with "What do you do for a living." My answer is "None of your fucking business."

Only the 23 states with shoreline can qualify in this category.

All states have shorelines, only 23 have coastlines.

I'm originally from NJ, so I always use the word 'shore.'
People here in California get confused by me.
    I aplogize for the colloquialism.

Eh, no biggie. A coast is a type of shore.
