One of the perks of living in cold weather. As soon as you get the first really cold night of the year, mosquitoes are gone until March or April.

The guy who fertilizes our lawn each year also has a mosquito repellent that you put on the lawn that works for about six weeks. It's not 100 percent, but it makes a big difference, especially if you're outside a lot.

Don't allow any water to stand for more than three days in your backyard. That's where the skeeters come from.

this might not help you in your travels, but it does help at home.

Don't have a mosquito problem around our property.
We just had an ant attack in the house, though.

That's exactly why I leave standing water around my house. Hopefully they bite people I don't like.

Skin-So-Soft bath oil has been used for a very long time as a non-Avon-endorsed bug repellent. HOWEVER, Avon carries a line of Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard products which contain IR3535 or Picaridin, both of which are non-DEET repellents and work very well. The biggest advantage with the Bug Guard products is being able to use them and not worry about the dangers of DEET.
If they work in the North Woods, they'll work where you're at.

My cousin swears by Bounce dryer sheets, rubbing them on his arms and legs. I guess he rubs them on his face, too. Not sure about that.
