What teams has the SEC beaten to deserve this reputation?

You see, this is the thing. "Reputation" is shit. A team, particularly a team with the personnel turnover rate of a college football team, is what it is this year, not what it was in 2006 or 1906. Conferences are just groups of teams, so the same rule should apply. It's all just part of the amazing built-in perference for the status quo in college football. The most important game of the season is how a team performs in the preseason polls.

PS: Citing BCS title games is not a very convincing argument to me about how good a conference is. 1. That's the past. 2. The BCS is a fraud -- although some of those SEC teams were anything but. Florida was an outstanding team. Ditto Alabama. How does that make Kentucky and Vanderbilt any better?

When a lousy SEC team beats or is in a game with a good SEC team, it is because the SEC is awesome.

When a lousy Big 10 team beats or is in a game with a good Big 10 team, it is because the Big 10 sucks.

Not a ranked team, but Utah did pound Iowa State by 41 at Ames, while Nebraska had to go to overtime to win by 1 at the same place a month later. And Iowa State beat an admittedly down Texas team as well.

Someday, just maybe, we'll decide this on the field and not on ballots.

What ARE the biggest BCS conference team over BCS conference team from another conference wins this season, anyhow? That I can't answer the question off the top of my head speaks to how rare those games are getting.

Playing devil's advocate here, but one could make a pretty decent argument that both Florida teams and LSU didn't even deserve to make the title game. Michigan should have gone the first year Florida won. It's only loss was to the No. 1 team in the country, while the Gators lost to a good Auburn team. The second time, Utah was undefeated and should have played for the title. Florida lost to a really bad Ole Miss team at home. LSU lost twice. Both were in OT, but there certainly could have been arguments for other teams to play in that game.

It's the preseason polls and national reputation.

Bottom line here people -- Our best beat the best of the rest of the world the last 4 years in a row (remember MIGHTY Ohio St--TWICE). Argue that our best doesn't deserve to be in the title hunt when you think about that and you're a moron.

if Oregon and Auburn finish unbeaten, why should Boise or TCU get in ahead of one of them

    How's this CY:

You're an SEC syncophant fanboilooser. You have no right to call anyone a moron when you refer to "our" teams.
I hope you don't really work in sports journalism.
