I'd heard about Ringwald and Pretty Woman. Had not heard about Pacino...

Michelle Pfeiffer was originally supposed to play Clarice Starling. John Lithgow was supposed to play Hannibal Lecter.

Kevin Costner turned down Shawshank Redemption to do Waterworld.

    Halle Berry turned down Speed.

Warren Beatty turned down Wall Street.

Will Smith was supposed to do The Matrix. He turned it down to do Wild, Wild West...

Jim Carrey and Julia Stiles were supposed to be in Meet the Parents...

OJ Simpson was supposed to play The Terminator...

How different does Seinfeld turn out if Jerry Stiller wasn't George's dad and Barney Martin wasn't Jerry's dad, like originally cast?

No Jerry Stiller would be pretty significant. I don't think the guy who played Seinfeld's dad would have had as much of an impact.

"My wallet's gone! My wallet's gone!" ... "Plum!"

Not as big of a cast member as Stiller, but I can't imagine anyone else besides Martin playing Jerry's dad. His dad in the pilot didn't have the same on-screen presence (yes, it was only one episode).

In the original story, Steve Ditko had Peter Parker as an anthropomoprhic spider who is bitten by a radioactive teenager.

In a moment of genius, Stan Lee made some changes.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I may be a little off on this, but I believe Paramount originally wanted James Caan to play Michael Corleone in The Godfather, and Robert Deniro to play Sonny, but Coppola held out for Pacino.

Speaking of the Godfather, when they got ready to make Part II, the actor who played Clemenza (Richard Castellano) held out for a huge raise and creative control over his character's dialogue. Instead, they killed him off and created the character of Frankie Five Angels for the sequel.

Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor wrote Blazing Saddles with the mind that Pryor play the lead role, but the studio considered Pryor too unreliable and not big enough of a star. So they went with Cleavon Little, who obviously was great but didn't really do much after that.
