I'm the only woman who is a full-time employee sitting in the sports department section.

Are you going to work for a one-man sports staff your whole career?

At my first shop, I was the youngest person in the newsroom by 17 years.

    That was fun...

Up until last year, i was the youngest in the entire newsroom. Then we hired someone who's a year younger than me.

Even though I have to edit copy from time to time, I'm not some dour grumpy puss when I do.

And I don't cackle like a hen that just laid an egg every time I catch some minor mistake.

That makes me unique among copy editors.

(Those are the same copy editors that say I'm not really a copy editor, I'm just a person who edits copy.)

I hope you at least make fun of the writers in a loud voice, preferably when they are in the room. Otherwise, you need to turn in your copy editor card.
