What is the USCAA World Series?

This is a new one on me - the Small College World Series.

It's played in Springfield, Ill., and I'm having trouble getting a handle on what it is.
A team with some area kids is playing in it, but I swear it's the first I have ever heard of it.

Anybody give me a shorthand explanation?

    My guess is it's a pay-to-play tourney.

I think I ran into this outfit last year. They are below NAIA, IIRC.

There's another group out there, the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association, that one of the area schools goes to while waiting to be approved for full NCAA Div. II membership while transitioning from NAIA. Can't really ignore it because they have five local athletes on their baseball team.

We have a team in that tournament, but I know very little about the USCAA. Here's the link to the organization's website: http://www.theuscaa.com/landing/index and the membership list: http://theuscaa.com/members/index

A bunch of small schools, some belong to other organizations, some don't.

The Albany College of Pharmacy, the Apprentice School, etc.? Jeez, that reads a lot like Grinnell College's basketball scheduling wish list.

Looking at the list of schools in the link Bud provided, this is a group I have been involved with before, at a distance. An athlete from our area was in its national softball tournament last year, and she had "one of those" moms. Was convinced that, since an ESPN Radio affiliate was carrying tournament games on its website, by Tebow, ESPN was there!
