What is the most disappointing single season for a pro sports team ever?

If you lose late, fans get to have the whole season of fun.

If you lose early, fans lose interest and it's hard to say it was the most disappointing.

Seems like an impossible standard.

 

No joke. The lesson I've taken from a few on this thread: it can be better just to shit the bed from the beginning, then you're quickly forgotten, no harm done. Whereas if you have a tremendous season but one bad game at the end, you get forever remembered as historically disappointing choking losers.

That seems fair.

 

So then what you ideally want is to lose early, make a charge in the middle and fail at the very end? Maybe the 2008 Yankees win this contest.

 

I disagree - the 2011 Eagles are the poster child for this thread and they shit the bed early

 

Very true. This thread was meant to be more about the team that everyone thought would win or contend for the title that shit the bed, rather than the ones that finished the regular season 16-0 or 14-2 but couldn't win the Super Bowl.

You could argue this year's Lakers are all three. Picked to do well, shit the bed, Kobe's injury, bad (maybe only in hindsight) but still, hiring of D'Antoni.

 

Why do so many give such credit to Vince Young's ignorant, Purple Drank ass saying, "woooo baby, we the dream team?" He was the only one dumb enough to call that team a Dream Team, yet everyone ran with it. If Vince Young said shit smells like rainbows and lollipops, would people buy that nonsense too?

 

I really feel the Rock and Sock Connection should have had a much longer run.

 

Yeah, but it wasn't just Vince Young - that was a good team that added some key parts and had the look of a contender and it melted down quickly.
