What is going on in Washington?

At this point, I feel like a separate thread on what's happening in Washington is merited.

Short version: WaPo has been working on a pretty massive story involving the local NFL franchise, which has caused a wild amount of speculation from local media on the subject. Three employees have abruptly left. Team has already hired someone for an internal investigation. Minority shareholders are selling their stake.

And the story hasn't even dropped yet. Is this fairly unprecedented? Because it sure feels like it.

Right now, it is a bunch of clowns chasing their tails acting like they know something on Twitter.
    Report it.
    Or shut up.

They keep saying a WaPo story was supposed to break today, Friday at the latest. A lot of, "there are lawyers involved" tweets over the last 24 hours.

I agree with Moddy. If you can't actually report it, don't do cryptic, "devastating story coming" tweets for days. Some of the speculation that has fed is now getting repeated as fact.

Firmly agree about not saying anything unless you have something to publish. The speculation from alleged media members was absolutely ridiculous. Also, a couple of journalists were subject to harassment -- one who works for The Athletic and one who just left the Boston Globe to join The Ringer. Awful stuff all around.

Based on the rumours in Twitter, the article is a little underwhelming. Obviously it portrays a toxic culture, but Snyder isn’t directly implicated for the most part.

I doubt it was intentional, but the journalists with no inside knowledge kind of overhyped it and as a result lessened the impact.

There was a similar thing in Canada about 10 years ago when Rob Ford was mayor of Toronto. The Globe and Mail teased a story coming out with “explosive allegations” etc. People waited with bated breath. It was only a few hours, then they released the story.

The bombshell was that his older brother, Doug (now Premier of Ontario) was a small time hash dealer in the late 70s/early 80s. Everyone kind of shrugged. In that era hash was everywhere, and you always got it through someone’s older brother.
