What is a news event you know little about?

I was thinking about this today, because I heard it referenced.

Mine is Enron. I know that they used shady accounting practices. I know they went under. I know they defrauded lots of people. But even though it was one of the biggest scandals of the '00s, I know very little about the particulars. And that's kind of embarrassing. I'm going to try to read up when I get a chance.

How about you guys? Could be anything. Vietnam? Iraq? 9/11? Casey Anthony? Obamacare? The recession? Try to keep it to something that you actually want to know about - so no Kardashian wedding or such that you don't think should have been a story. (Unless, of course, you are an entertainment news consumer and the Kardashian wedding is something that you missed that you wanted to know about. That's legit. I just don't want this to be a gripe session about the kind of news that Americans consume.)

It's kind of interesting how even us news junkies can get busy and totally miss a huge story.

I can't stand politics, so I don't bother trying. When it comes time to vote, I do a little research on the politicians' stances on the issues important to me. I don't need the back-and-forth bullshit.

In general, though, I don't consider myself particularly informed on anything but sports and journalism. And here I am.

I'm with everyone else in paying little attention to national matters.

The Abramoff scandal. I was burnt out by bad news at the time, so I just tuned it out.So when I recently watched the Casino Jack documentary and the shrill Kevin Spacey movie, I was unaware that Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed were in such proximity and there was a mob hit in Fort Lauderdale. I just thought it was a few Indian tribes, Tom Delay and a few inconsequential congressmen.

I've totally lost track of how Riverdale is doing in the Tri-High Conference

I guess it could be considered news, but I barely know any of the top musicians or bands today.

And I sure as shit don't know what the top song in the nation is right now.

I can't be bothered to pay attention to news events. I just don't care.

I didn't go to journalism school so I could do something other than just watch sports for the rest of my life, you know.

If it makes you feel any better, I know more about news than I do about sports. :D
