What do you wear to visitation?

At the last visitation I went to, a guy showed up wearing a hoodie, jeans with holes in them and skater shoes.

You didn't mention socks. Belt but not socks. :)

There's no such thing as overdressed for things like this.

I'd wear one of my nicer suits and ties.

I would wear a suit if I owned one. Otherwise, dress pants, button down shirt with tie and sports coat, depending on the weather.

    I really need a suit.

Agree with the fact that being there is the most important part.

I say simply look above average. A dress shirt and dress pants or nice khakis (with our without tie). Nice pants, a sport coat, dress shirt and no tie is very good.

And yes, a belt and socks are a nice touch.

Show up. Talk to the family members that you know. Offer your condolences. That's what really matters.

Same here. I've never heard them called anything but a wake.

    I figured socks was a given. :)

Belts for me nowadays are a major given since I've lost about 40 pounds.

Dyno: He did care. It was a major sign of respect. I bet your dad was a great guy. Your friend certainly thought so.

Slight threadjack... every man should own at least one suit and the accessories thereof. I speak as a male thankful that my fiancee has helped me out in that area.

Down South, it's called visitation or viewing. And unlike my vision of a wake, there's no booze.

I think wakes are associated with Catholicism, no?
