Wandered into a bar just at the other end of the parking lot from the TWA Dome, Sundeckers or something that, and staggered out about five hours later. A great time was had by all, or so I (don't) recall.

It's good to know you don't want to fuck frozen custard. The more pressing question, at least to me, is how one fucks frozen custard. Answer at your own peril.

As many others have said, the zoo is fantastic. If you feel the urge to gamble, head west to either Ameristar or Harrah's. The President Casino on the Missouri side is a shithole. Don't know about the Casino Queen, except to say it doesn't have poker. And while new Busch is nice, don't drink the Kool-Aid about it being baseball heaven.

Zoo, Science Museum, The park area...all great.

Another great place for the kids is the City Museum. It's basically cool exhibits that even adults would find enjoyable but definitely geared toward kids.

Hey, I hear East St. Louis isn't a bad town.

I never said it was a bad town. Just said its on our list of towns that youcan get your ass kicked free of charge. There's a thread of other towns listed.

Many good places have already been mentioned. I'll toss in a couple more.

O'Connell's may have the best burgers in the city. It's a homey little bar on Kingshighway just south of I-44. They pour a nice Guinness, too.

St. Louis is a beer town and Schlafly's makes the best. They've got a brewpub on the western edge of downtown (20th and Locust), and their main brewery is in the inner-ring suburb of Maplewood. Very good food at both.

If plant life is your thing, check out the Missouri Botanical Garden. It's free on Saturday mornings (well, I know it is for locals. Not sure about out of town folks). While you're down there, see Tower Grove Park. St. Louis has great parks. And, yeah, all the Forest Park museums are free.

When I was taking suggestions on St. Louis, a close friend here made the same joke.

And, having been lost there on my trip, I'm well aware that it's not the best area.

I'd avoid Laclede's Landing. Not really for anybody above 27, but Mississippi Nights does have pretty decent music. If you don't mind trying to find it by trial and error south of Forest Park, go to Shaw's Garden; great floral displays. But bring water; will be a hot walk. And if you or Mrs. Petty is a maller, St. Louis Galleria in Clayton is the best choice for unique shops.
