What are giving up for Lent?

    As my priest explained it, you don't necessarily have to give up anything. You can take on something instead, such as a daily scripture reading. Like JayFarrar said, it is simply personal sacrifice.

    Me too. Especially since I'm not Catholic.

    I see it as a time for self-improvement both physically and spiritually.

    Soda, and hopefully not just for lent.

    I was pondering this today. A true sacrifice for me would be soda and caffeine. Maybe just the soda with caffeine. Then I could have coffee.

    Normally it's red meat and fried foods.

    Then I though, maybe I should do all of them.

    So, no soda, no red meat and no fried foods, specifically fries. It's going to be hard, but maybe this will lead to self improvement as well, which I believe is the goal of Lent.
