You can never go wrong with "Hot Burrito No. 1" or just about anything else from "The Guilded Palace of Sin," except "Hippy Boy."

I too love the Grass Roots, especially "Midnight Confessions." They still tour the West Coast county fair circuit in the summer.

    My three sleepers:

"I watched it all on my radio," by Lionel Cartwright.

"Jimmy McCarthy's Truck," by Molly & the Heymakers.

"Gulf of Mexico," Molly & the Heymakers.

If you like Alice in Chains, the whole "Dirt" album is pretty amazing. I've always been a big Weezer fan.

I don't like much newer music. I don't listen to the radio much, so that doesn't help.

Fitz and the Tantrums are one of the newer bands I like. Beyond that, The White Stripes and The Killers are probably the two main bands that weren't around when I was in college that I listen to. I bought two CDs last year (not counting kids stuff) and it was Jack White's solo album and the Fitz and the Tantrums CD.

I'm a pretty huge Hold Steady fan, yet for some reason, I didn't listen to much Lifter Puller. I'm rectifying that now, and I'm pissed I've missed out on it for so long.

Jesus of Suburbia, Green Day -

    Really cool live version -

    Yuck, Get Away -

    Bloc Party, Little Thoughts -
(this album is amazing, but they pretty much bombed after)
Built to Spill, Carry The Zero -

    Band of Horses, Lorado -

Hold Steady, Sequestered in Memphis -

Pretty much all guitar driven rock and a lot like Weezer.

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals if you're not already familiar.

    Love me some Grace.

I've also been playing Lorde's "Heroine" a lot lately at work. First 4-5 songs are really good. Posting "Tennis Court" here because the hit's been done to death.

I'll second (third?) the mentions of Dawes. Their latest album is loaded with great songs.

Another newer band — actually mostly one Australian musician — that's got a great late 1960s/early 1970s sound is Tame Impala. Here's a couple links:

    "Elephant":

    "Endors Toi":

Cool early Pink Floyd/early Genesis sound. SamMills, take note!

Also jumping on the Haim bandwagon like half of America. That's some sharp pop hooks. And their song that's been done to death, "The Wire," holds up through repeated listens or viewings.

Grace is a lovely young woman, but I don't get the musical appeal.
The music's not bad, but nothing about it really gets to me.
