One thing Weis has never had is class.

But, then again, tossing his weight around as a personal insult, isn't that great, either.

  3. As I understand it, here's what happened.

Weis hand-selected five beat guys for a post-firing sitdown. All locals. No Chicago media. No national media.

He thought the Pete Carroll comment was off the record, though he didn't say that. Irish Illustrated's (the ND Rivals site) Tim Prister - a damn, damn fine writer and reporter, by the way - included it in the transcript Q-and-A on the site. Weis asked him to take it out, and he complied, but the cat was out of the bag because others had already picked up on it.

Easy to rip Tim on both counts, but unnecessary. He's someone who both had a good relationship with Weis, but never let that stand in the way of being critical of the program.

Weis put him in a horrible spot here. Horrible.

Weis wanted it "off the record" because it was inappropriate, or because it was completely false?

Guess what, fatboy: When you have a sitdown with five reporters, every goddamn thing is on the record. Every burp, belch, mumble and fart.

And oh by the way, you're a sniveling pathetic asshole. There's a reason you're not living with a sexy grad student in a bungalow on the Lake Michigan shore.

Agree on the fat insult - what Weis said was wrong if he weighs 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 or more. Toss around a line like that and you're pretty much at Weis level.

He brings it all on himself.

You can only call Rush Limbaugh fat. Calling anyone else fat is not nice.

So, is the story true? It would seem provable, one way or the other. It doesn't seem possible that Carroll could get away with denying it if it's true.

55-year-old guys split up with their wives and take up with younger women all the time. It's a sad thing for the people involved in the marriage, but nobody else's goddamn business.

Might matter to the mommies of some of these 5- and 4-star recruits what kind of man they will be trusting their boys to.

Weis is an ass for talking about it, regardless of the facts. And I'd have to think it will affect his future employment opportunities.

Who'd want to hire a guy that talks out out of school like that?

Doesn't mean I can't be curious about whether or not it's true.

  12. Unless Weis explicitly says it's off the record and everyone in the room agrees, it's on the record. Particularly for an outgoing coach to whom nobody owes any favors or has any reason to maintain a relationship with.
