Browns owner Randy Lerner on Sunday says he wants things done in "a far more conspicuous, open, transparent way." A day later, the team escorts its GM out of its facility at noon, denies doing so, then only semi-confirms he's been fired at 10:30 p.m.

This team invents ways embarrass itself.

I was having flashbacks to 1978 there for awhile. Seems like there is more goofy shit in a Saints-Falcons game than any other series in football.

I think there's a larger back story behind this firing than just the losing. I have no idea what the reason may be, but something is afoot.

Like golf, owning an NFL team proves that all the money in the world can't buy you success.

In all honesty, the Browns were likely to finish fourth in the division anyway this year, but it seems pretty clear that Lerner made a bad call on Mangini.

But the Browns QB position as always been a black hole - Derek Anderson is now 9th all time with franchise starts (32) and 10th with wins (14).

Otto Graham, Milt Plum, Frank Ryan, Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar would all like a word with you.

No kidding. Otto Graham was one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Hell of a nice man, too, at least in his older years. I have no idea what he was like when he was playing.

He also recommended Kokinis for the job with the Falcons, but Blank (smartly, apparently) didn't even interview him.

Guess Lerner wanted to go from one extreme to the other...from a guy nobody ever saw to a guy who will never ever ever ever shut the fuck up and will always want to tell you how he's pals with Joe Paterno and how he covered Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game and how Johnny Unitas always told him you've got to have a franchise QB, yada yada yada.

For all the money involved in the NFL, it's amazing that more than a few franchises are run like a small town Elks Lodge.
